A downtown hub for homeless residents created during the lockdown days of the COVID-19 pandemic has a new, permanent home.

Corazón Day Center & Resource Hub opened its doors Monday at 504 Avenue E on the campus of Grace Lutheran church. Visitors will have access to a number of essential services such as hot meals, day center activities, outreach workers, recovery groups, and hot showers.

Previously located at the San Fernando Gym, the day center was a product the city’s COVID-19 response. In April 2020, Corazón partnered with the city, Centro San Antonio, SAPD’s HOPE Team, Municipal Court staff, and others to operate a downtown resource hub for San Antonio’s homeless population. The facility provided unsheltered residents with vaccinations, masks, ID card replacements, clothing, hygiene items, and access to community resources.
