The Machine Inside: Biomechanics

January 30, 2021 - April 18, 2021

Take a “nuts and bolts” look at the natural world at the Witte Museum’s first traveling exhibition of the year. The Machine Inside: Biomechanics, explores animals and plants as machines built for survival, complete with pumps, pipes, levers, motors, springs and intelligence gathering devices.
The exhibition includes outstanding bilingual content that provides safe interactive engagement in engineering, medicine, biology and other STEM disciplines, inspiring workforce development in these fields. Visitors of all ages will investigate the marvel of natural engineering from a cheetah’s sprint to a shrimp’s punch, from a crocodile’s chomp to an owl’s hearing.
The Machine Inside: Biomechanics takes students and families beyond the surface of nature to explore the invisible workings within, using 80 specimens, large scale videos, digital interactives and safely spaced mechanical interactives and biomimicry innovations. By delving deep, speeding things up, slowing things down, and presenting anatomy and physiology of plants and animals. The Machine Inside: Biomechanics gives us a new appreciation for the machine inside all of us.
