Let’s bundle up, fasten our face masks, load up our hand sanitizer, and kiss 2020 good-bye; socially distanced style.

This year’s celebration might be a little different from previous years, but change can always be a good thing. Many of us are looking forward to bidding farewell to 2020, we can do so safely and still have a good time! This years celebration can be the start of some new traditions for some of us.

Instead of going to a crowded New Year’s party, get dressed up and go for a river boat cruise then walk through the historic Riverwalk, admiring the lights, and trying all the enticing restaurants the Riverwalk has to offer.

This year, several restaurants are pulling out all the stops to ensure their guests have a good time while celebrating cautiously. Every restaurant has limited capacity and some require reservations ahead of time or requiring a purchase of tickets for their events.

Boudro’s is offering a wine pairing event. Dorrego’s, located inside the Hotel Valencia, will have a buffet available. Ostra, inside the Mokara Hotel, will be open serving a special menu. Ocho is having a special menu prepared in honor of New Year’s Eve. Stroll through the Riverwalk to check out the famous light display and explore the variety of the restaurants and bars the Riverwalk has for you to try.

Typically, there is an annual fireworks display downtown as well as a celebration hosted by the San Antonio Parks Foundation. A favorite spot to enjoy New Year’s Ever is always the RIverwalk. You get a great view of the fireworks and get to see the Christmas lights on full display. This year’s celebration has changed a bit.

The San Antonio Parks Foundation has discuss their options with city officially and decided to host this year’s celebration virtually. Wanting to avoid mass gatherings and keep everyone safe, this was the most considerate decision. The online event takes place 10pm – 12:30am. This might be one of the few years you can celebrate in your pajamas without being judged! Take advantage of celebrating safely in the comfort of your own home.

For those extroverts, a few hotels will be hosting New Year’s Eve parties while enforcing social distancing. Capacity will be limited for these events and tickets must be purchased.

The Grand Hyatt is having a socially distanced New Year’s bash. The event will be outdoors, no matter the weather, so dress appropriately. There will be a DJ to provide some live music. There’s also going to be a midnight champagne toast. Tickets and masks are required. This is a 21 and up event.

Always call the establishment before heading there to make sure they haven’t met capacity. One of the best features of the Riverwalk is the abundance of restaurants to choose from. If the hotel, bar, or restaurant you want to try out is already full, you can just walk a few minutes and find a new place to go!

However you choose to celebrate this year, celebrate carefully and cautiously. We can all have an amazing New Year’s Eve, no matter how we plan to spend it. We’re all ready for the new year to start!
