Those many voices included Mexican stars such as entertainer and equestrian Antonio Aguilar, ranchera singer Lola Beltrán and cultural icon Vicente Fernández. They also included the father and grandmother of San Antonio artist Alan Calvo.

When the Alameda Theater first opened more than 70 years ago, the downtown San Antonio venue was the largest ever dedicated to Spanish-language entertainment, an ornate movie palace whose films, music and other performing arts often spoke to audiences who did not speak English.
